My baby bird has a bruised leg and won't stand. Should I see a vet?

It looks like a bruise, if it doesn't seem to bother him i would not worry about it, it will probably heal without treatment. regarding the fact that he is flying into walls, that is not good, you need to try and confine him to a place where he cannot hurt himself like a big cage or aviary.

Hello! If your female bird is trying to escape your male bird, I would recommend keeping them separated. Frustrated and scared birds often hurt themselves attempting to escape situations. When a bird holds up their leg, it is the equivalent of a human limping and is a sign of pain. I would recommend taking her into be seen by an avian vet. They will likely recommend x-rays. The x-rays will ensure that she has no broken bones, as well as looking at her abdominal organs. Abdominal problems are a common cause of leg issues in birds because their abdominal organs are on top of their sciatic (leg) nerve. They will likely recommend an anti-inflammatory to help with her pain and make other treatment recommendations based off of x-rays and physical exam. I hope this helps! Hi, It looks like Charm’s foot had trauma that caused a break in the skin (hence the bleeding). What you are seeing now looks like a scab that needs to heal. I would suspect Charm is in some degree of pain or discomfort and I can’t rule out that a bone may have been broken, so a trip to the veterinarian for an exam and pain medications (and perhaps antibiotics) would be best. In the meantime, keep the foot clean and dry as the scabs heal, lower any perches if she seems hesitant to weight bear, and make sure she eats and drinks well.

Unfortunately Pearl is going to need to be seen by a doctor, and very soon. Budgies can get dehydrated very quickly. Be sure to monitor as closely as possible of any changes and let your doctor know as soon as you can.

It is possible that Eris may have injured her leg somehow. Without radiographs it is not possible to determine if the leg is broken or not. Either way, she is likely in a significant amount of pain if it is preventing her from eating. Unfortunately there are no medications that you can give her at home to help with the pain and she would need to be seen by a veterinarian. I agree that the trip to the vet may be stressful, but not nearly as stressful as the pain and discomfort from an injured or broken leg.

It depends on any secondary problems and if the trauma was only isolated to the leg. If his leg is the only thing that is broken and there are no other problems, he would likely be fine until seeing the vet. However, if there is any infection or anything else going on that might put his life at risk then he may not make it. If possible, I would get him in to be seen sooner so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. I hope this helps!

Birds have hollow bones, which enable them to fly, but this also means that they are very fragile and break easy. you will need to take Lurch to an avian vet ASAP in order to check if any of his legs are broken, if they are he might require surgery.
