My sheep is depressed, sneezing, and has a runny nose. What's wrong?

Respiratory infections are common in sheep, especially young ones. If you can, it would be best to have a vet come out and take a look at him in person to make the best treatment recommendations. Different vets use different medications for respiratory issues in sheep, but personally I normally use either LA 200 or Nuflor as a more effective antibiotic for this issue. LA 200 may be available over the counter in your area, but you will need to have a vet come out and do an exam for Nuflor since it's prescription only.

Sheru may have a respiratory infection. I would contact a veterinarian to come out and evaluate him as soon as possible. If you have access to antibiotics on the farm, you may want to administer a dose.

I am sorry to hear about Bob. I would definitely recommend getting him to the vet as soon as possible. If he is having difficulty breathing tonight I would take him to an emergency vet. There are many possible causes of coughing. Allergies can occasionally cause a mild cough but we don't often see coughing as a result of allergies in pets (in pets allergies tend to manifest more as skin problems or sneezing) and in those cases the cough is more mild. We would worry about infections with bacteria or virus (including pneumonia in severe coughing), heartworm disease, heart disease, and lung tumors to name a few. Bob needs to have the vet examine him, listen to his heart and lungs, and most likely take x-rays of his lungs to check for changes to the heart and lungs. The results of the exam and testing will help determine his treatment needed. Best of luck to you and Bob.

The sneezing and runny nose is a very big deal as rabbits are prone to bacterial infections and pneumonia. Butterball should see a vet right away for a diagnosis and to get on the appropriate medication so that the upper respiratory infection doesn't get worse and turn into pneumonia. The crusty areas could be a skin infection or other condition that the vet can diagnose and start the appropriate treatment for as well. Make sure the vet you go to has experience treating rabbits. Hello! A wet nose in a rabbit usually indicates nasal discharge. Nasal discharge can result from allergy, inflammation, or infection of the nasal passages or even from an infected tooth root. It is very common for rabbits to carry a bacteria called Pasteurella (often referred to as “snuffles”). This bacteria can flare up in times of stress. Most rabbits have at least been exposed to this bacteria, and there are also other bacteria and viruses that could cause similar respiratory illness. The best thing to do for Buddy would be to have him examined by your local vet who can assess the discharge and Buddys breathing and teeth. the vet may recommend blood work, X-rays, or even a CT scan of his head since that will give the best information about the nose and terth. Remember that an oral exam in an awake rabbit is fairly insensitive to disease and any root disease is not visible except with X-rays for a CT scan. Since rabbits can only breath through their nose, it’s important to get this evaluated while Buddy is doing well, since potential profession of disease could be serious. Good luck to you and Buddy!
