Why does my horse have a recurring tail sore that vets can't diagnose?

Pet's info: Farm Animal | Horse | Male | neutered | 19 years and 1 month old | 580 lbs

My horse has a sore on his tail! This is the same thing as he has had before! Had a vet out but they didn’t know what it wAs! Do u have any idea??

My guess would be either an injury, a parasite or a tumor. It looks like he is rubbing his tail which can indicate pinworm infection. Has he been dewormed recently? Hard to say if he is rubbing it because he has the sore or if he rubbed it first and that caused the sore........

Maybe you should get a second opinion from another vet. This looks pretty serious and needs to be treated. I cannot diagnose over the internet with just a photo. A biopsy of that area may be needed to figure this out.

It appears jack has a sore on his tail, but without an exam it's impossible to know what is causing it. You can gently scrub it with warm water and mild soap. If it is very weepy, has a bad odor or is very painful Kack should see his vet. Otherwise keep the area clean and prevent him from licking or chewing it and it may heal on its own. If not he may have an infection that should be addressed by a vet visit.

What's this sore, crusty lump on my horse's leg near its hoof?

This looks like the result of a chronic trauma or infection creating a proliferative skin inflammation (that is why it looks like a lump). A check up, appropriate disinfection and possibly antibiotics or antifungal meds (oral, topical or in a shampoo formulation) are needed to solve the problem. Disinfection can eventually be started at home with very diluted hibiscrub or betadine or salted water baths.

What's this skin issue on my horse's face? When to call the vet?

There is no way to know what is going on here just by looking at some photos. Many skin diseases look similar so some testing will likely need to be done to figure out what is going on here. Some possibilities: 1. rain rot 2. staph bacterial infection 3. ringworm 4. autoimmune disease 5. injury/trauma I suggest you get your vet out to examine her. What's causing the new sore on my standard poodle's tail and butt?

It looks like he might have a dermatitis/skin infection which could be secondary to allergies. You should check him for fleas to make sure that isn't the cause. He might also be licking his hind end because of an anal gland issue. You could try over the counter Vetericyn spray and see if that helps. If not, he needs to be examined and treated by a vet. He may need an antibiotic, corticosteroid, or other medications to treat.

Why does my cat have a blister-like sore at the base of her tail?

This is difficult to picture. At 12 years of age it could certainly be some type of tumor, however I'll add that tail base lesions (hair loss, scabbing) are frequently related to flea infestations, so if you're not using a good quality feline flea product that's a good place to start. It sounds like he has a skin infection that needs to be treated again. Maybe he needed to stay on the antibiotics longer, either topical or oral.
