When can I start handling my new foal that's scared of touch?

My horse had a foal last night when can I start handling and touching the foal I tried to touch it today and it was scared and hiding behind its mum

Hello. I am sorry for your delay in an answer, but you should be trying to touch & handle the foal every day. It may not be much at all, but each time, try a little longer. In a few weeks, it should be familiar enough with you to try & place a halter on her. Do not leave it on, just leave for a few minutes & increase the time each day. The foal will soon associate you with friendly pats & good scratches. It just takes a little patience. And I hope you do not feed your mare that much bread every day!
