Why is my guinea pig's ear full of yellow discharge and pressure?

Have it examined by your veterinarian. A swab of the ear can be examined in the clinic to confirm infection as well as the type (bacterial, fungal or mites). Once this is done, the appropriate medication or treatment can be administered or dispensed.

I would assume your sister meant an ear infection inside the ear, but I cannot be sure without seeing it. The best thing to do is take in your pet to your veterinarian-ear infections will require prescription antibiotics to clear up, and can become quite serious and painful for Fluff if it isn't treated soon and properly. Poor Ginger, I don't see how she is going to eat and go to the toilet in this condition. The infection is possibly into the inner ear and does warrant some antibiotics. I would also makes sure that there isn' t a foreign body at the base of this problem. I would recommend to have her rechecked as soon as possible as she will need supportive care. Hope this helps !

Poor Ginger, I see what you mean in the picture. This could be due to mites or it could be an ear infection. Without seeing her in person, I can't say for certain. I can say she does need to see a vet to have it diagnosed and treated, and I would take her into the vet in the morning to get this done. I hope this helps.

Thanks for reaching out about Carmello and including photos (but pictures do not show any problems). Upper and lower respiratory infections are common and can cause congestion (sounds). Heart disease is not uncommon in middle aged/older guinea pigs also. A veterinary visit would be a good idea. Warm ears could be an indication of a fever. Monitor food and water intake, monitor noises and see if you can locate to a certain area or situation. Good luck.

I am so sorry for the delay in answering your question. Mites are very common in guinea pigs and may be the cause. Take her to your vet so they can determine if this is indeed the problem, and can advise you on how best to treat it. In the meantime, change the bedding daily and monitor her food and water intake--if she is lethargic, or is not eating or drinking, take her to the vet right away.
