Oh no! Fleas are not a fun surprise! Trifexis prevents fleas, heartworms and some intestinal parasites. Since this isn't working for you, I typically recommend using either Nexgard, Bravecto or K9 Advantix II as flea and tick prevention. Please note that Nexgard and Bravecto are prescription-based (like the Trifexis), so these would need to be obtained by Prince's vet. Prince and his friend will also need to start a separate heartworm prevention, such as Heartgard or Interceptor, but again, these are prescription-based. Until you can pick up these new medications, you can bathe both dogs in original blue Dawn dish soap because this will help to kill the existing adult fleas. I hope this helps and that all goes well!

Some veterinarians treat heart worms with a slow kill method by giving heartworm prevention monthly which will kill the adult worms over time and prevent new ones. The more common treatment is with injections to kill the worms quickly. Both methods have advantages and disadvantages. Doing it with a slow kill method is much less expensive. The shots are expensive, can be painful and you would need to keep your dog very quiet for six weeks. Thanks for using Boop by Petco to help you care for Duke.

Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! So there is something called Triflex which is a human joint supplement. It isn't used for flea and ticks. I would ask her again and ask her what she uses the product for. If she is referring to flea and tick prevention she likely just misspoke as there is no generic for Trifexis that I am aware of. Have a good day!

Hello and thank you for your question. First, I Just want to applaud you for taking a prophylactic approach to heartworm and internal parasites by giving trifexis monthly. Great job. Trifexis takes care of and prevents roundworms, hookworms, and whipworms. It does not, however, prevent a dog from getting infested by other internal parasites such as tapeworms or coccidia. Because there are so many different types of medications available over the counter that treat different types of worms in a dogs gastrointestinal tract, I encourage you to take a fecal sample to your local veterinarian to get a definite diagnosis and correct treatment. It would be best to take in a sample of the feces as well as one of the worms that you find for best results. I hope this helps. Have a great day.

Tri-Heart is generic Heartgard and is just as effective. I am not sure why your vet won't prescribe it for you. You cannot buy any heartworm prevention over the counter so you will need a prescription. I suggest you bring your dog to one of the VETCO vaccine clinics at your local Petco stores (see schedule below). Bring proof of his last negative heartworm test and they can give you a prescription for the Tri-Heart. There is no charge for the exam. Just the cost of the medication. Hope this helps!
