I would try this antimicrobial eye gel. ( https://www.amazon.co.uk/Vetericyn-Plus-Animal-Antimicrobial-Ophthalmic/dp/B00HYRZFMK/ref=sr_1_25?keywords=vetericyn+eye&qid=1559134319&s=gateway&sr=8-25 ) I don't know what bedding you are using but you want to use something that has very low dust like Care Fresh. I would start with these two things and if no improvement then you should try to get him to a vet for an exam. ( https://www.amazon.co.uk/Carefresh-29785-10ltr-Ultra/dp/B005AIPPVQ/ref=sr_1_5?keywords=carefresh+animal+bedding+hamster&qid=1559134402&s=gateway&sr=8-5 ) Hope this helps. Best wishes.

Softwood litters i.e. pine shavings or sawdust newspaper, paper pulp bedding, wood pellets, paper pellets, shredded cardboard, straw and hay all make good bedding. The best is probably a combination of newspaper and hay since you feed hay anyway. Newspaper is also easily cleaned out.

The only thing that I would be concerned with would be if the wood is coated with any type of toxic substance. I believe you can find houses meant for rodents (since these guys chew so much). I would stick with these. Thank you for using Pet Coach!

Yes, these can make great homes for hamsters. Be sure to secure the top to prevent escape. Be careful to allow adequate air circulation. You can make use of the vertical space as well. Do not use colored plastic bins.

Feeding: Feed according to the instructions on the bag of food you are using. It also depends on the hamsters age. I would recommend you use a high quality diet like Oxbow. Remember, they are very small and don't need to eat much. ( https://www.petco.com/shop/en/petcostore/product/oxbow-15-oz-oat-hay ) Treats: Once a week you can consider giving your hamster a treat by providing some a small amount of boiled egg or some fruits/veggies. Many hamsters like cauliflower, broccoli, pear, peach and banana. Always remember to remove any uneaten food from your hamster’s cage so that it doesn’t rot. You can also feed commercial treats in place of the above: ( https://www.petco.com/shop/en/petcostore/product/oxbow-timothy-club-bungalow-medium ) Exercise: If you put him the hamster ball it is recommended that you not leave him in there more than 20 minutes per day. Handling: I suggest you refer to this page for ideas on how to get your hamster used to you: ( http://thehamsterhouse.com/
