I think Purina is better. They run their own feed trials, meet AAFCO standards, and have veterinary nutritionists on staff. They are only one of four food companies that have this (Royal Canin, Hill's Science Diet, and Iams {Eukanuba} are the other brands).

Acana vs Pro Plan for my Cavalier King Charles with kidney concerns?
I certainly understand your concerns with the ingredients in ProPlan. Personally, I think Acana is a wonderful food. There is a concern with high protein diets in dogs that have existing kidney problems since normally functioning kidneys are necessary to normally process protein in the diet. If Misha does not have any indication of pre-existing kidney problems on her bloodwork, then I would not have any concerns with feeding a 3 year old dog a high protein food like Acana even if she is less active. You will find that many of the more natural food are higher in protein because they have less fillers. Please let me know if that was helpful. Is Purina Pro Plan right for my French Bulldog's sensitive stomach?
Hello again. It is always hard to say for sure if Lou will tolerate this food as each dog's digestive tract is unique and can be sensitive to many different diets. However, Purina pro plan is a great diet and a good choice for Lou as he recovers. The Purina company has veterinarians on their team to ensure that all of their foods are nutritionally complete and balanced. I would recommend slowly transitioning him from the royal canin to the purina diet over 3-5 days. Hope this helps, glad to hear Lou is feeling better!
