Poor girl. This happens even to the best nail trimmers. He only thing that will successfully stop a bleeding nail every time is an over the counter Kwik Stop styptic powder from your local pet store. It is good that it has stopped bleeding; however, I would pick up some of this powder from the store first thing in the morning. Otherwise, place newspaper in the litter box tonight and monitor it until you go to bed. A light bandage can also be tried; however, cats in particular won't allow a bandage to stay in place. Hopefully things have stabilized for now and she will continue to do well until morning. Most of these nail bleeding situations are fine and don't result in serious complications (i.e. anemia). Best wishes and take care.

You can try using corn starch or all purpose flour - it can also help blood clot. If you have access to bandage material you could also try placing a bandage although it can be difficult to get a bandage to stay on a paw - make sure you don't wrap anything too tight!

Poor Thurop! Sometimes this happens when trimming nails. You can put a pinch of cornstarch or flour on the bleeding end of the nail to help it clot. If this doesn't work, you can get Quick Stop styptic powder at most pet stores, which is made for this purpose.

If you use styptic powder it will stop immediately. You can purchase this at a pet store, or get it at a pharmacy. Men use this to stop bleeding when shaving. Put a small amount on the bleeding nail and hold it on for a short time. I always have it when I trim toenails to stop bleeding if they get cut too short. Clip the nail carefully. If there is bleeding, gentle pressure and some Quik Stop powder or plain cornstarch should stop it. Clean daily with a diluted Betadine or chlorhexidine (Hibiclens) solution. A dab of a triple antibiotic may be applied if necessary. Monitor for redness, swelling or lethargy. If she won't allow you to clip the nail, she may need to be seen by your veterinarian. Clip the other nails a bit to prevent snagging.
