Thanks for reaching out. If is a good idea to fast for 1-2 days prior to shipment, this decreased feces and will help to keep the ammonia down. Typically clear bags are utilized with about 50% water, and 50% air/oxygen used. A local pet store might be able to assist, as they get shipment in (so have older bags and boxes, which need to be disinfected) and hopefully the skills to ship. Check with the airline also, box needs to be well labelled "LIE ANIMALS" and "THIS END UP". Sometimes a health certificate for interstate travel is needed, so contact airline and State of Utah, veterinarian. Good luck.

Fish and meat are equivalent. They both provides necessary sources of protein. However I feel that fish is better because it provides a source of omega 3 fattt acids which is great for skin and bladder health.

Check water chemistry and temperature. Both can affect activity and appetite. Maintain pristine water quality via filtration and regular partial water changes. Use only conditioned water that is temperature matched to prevent stress or shock. Bettas do best between 78 F and 80 F. Next, check the food itself. Betta are little carnivores. Make sure the flakes are an appropriate diet. He may eat only in the morning because he is hungry enough to eat.

That could be due to an old injury which is now resolving or possibly an initial fin rot disease. It is very important to monitor the development of this black spot and if getting bigger I would recommend a quite radical but logic approach. Begin by submitting a water sample for quality testing. Most pet stores will do this for free or a nominal fee. Clinical examination should always include a water quality check, even if you have done so already. Water testing should be performed with a quality test kit, measuring NH4, NO2 and NO3. High ammonia levels, PH imbalances may be responsible for these signs. Oxygen concentration and quality of the filters should be determined as well. If water quality is good and there are no major imbalances, your fish should get examined to look for any sign of bacterial/fungal infection and eventually water should be treated. Regarding the food, the requirements are very different as bettas are insectivores and goldfishes are mainly herbivores. Food for

Thanks for reaching out about Fun Ghoul and including photos. Not sure if fish become depressed, but maybe lethargic. Check and correct water parameters including pH, ammonia, nitrite and nitrates. Packages of food offered should be discarded after 2-3 months as vitamins degrade. If concerns continue, a veterinary visit is recommended. Good luck.
