As there are different types of hair on furred animals, birds have different kinds of feathers, each having a particular function.

If you have a local pet store in your location, that's a great place to check for commercial bird foods. You may also need to check online if you don't have anything available. Cockatiel foods are often a blend of seeds and pellets that are nutritionally balanced. Millet seeds, and other small seeds, and some dried fruits and vegetables can also be substituted to balance the diet if a commercial brand isn't available. Fruits such as dried berries, applies, peach, can be tasty, and dried veggies such as spinach and other leafy greens make a great treat.

Without knowing how long you've had your bird, it would be hard to give more tailored recommendations. Birds can be very picky and afraid of new things at first, especially if you've recently purchased it. I would continue to offer a variety of items to let your bird get used to seeing them, etc, and give it a chance to finally sample some. Be sure to pick up anything spoiled and keep trying!

Thanks for reaching out about Frenchie. It is impossible to tell how serious this is, and a veterinary visit is recommended to assess Frenchie's health and to provide a diagnostic/treatment plan. Most avian veterinarians will provide heat support in the 80-85 F range, to give comfort. Good luck.

You should not need to be supplementing these items as long as the parents are feeding the baby from their own balanced diet, or you are providing a baby bird formula for the bird to eat. You can however, provide extra calcium for the mother to help with any future egg-laying and prevent egg-binding.

While it can take some time for birds to settle in, they should not be losing lots of feathers, acting lethargic, or have stool or other materials stuck to their vents. This is more likely an indication of an issue such as too many treats/snacks, underlying illness such as parasites, poor nutrition, infection, etc. If both birds are affected, having them treated for parasite and examined by your vet is a good idea. Making sure their environment is clean, warm and draft free, away from any stressors, and they have access to fresh food (removing any snacks or treats that could cause diarrhea) and water may help, however if their symptoms continue, vet care is best.
