As multiple hermit crabs can be kept together in a 10 gallon or larger habitat, and they do not require daily handling or socializing outside of their habitat, hermit crabs can make an excellent pet for the pet parent that doesn't have a great deal of space or extra time to devote to a pet. Hermit crabs are quiet but social pets that can be entertaining to watch interact with each other and their environment. Hermit crabs do still need specialized care and attention however, and should be fed a high-quality commercial hermit crab food as well as treats such as vegetables, non-citrus fruits, nuts, seaweed, brine shrimp or fish flakes.
A well-balanced hermit crab diet consists of high quality commercial hermit crab food for their primary diet. Vegetables, non-citrus fruits, nuts, seaweed, brine shrimp and fish flakes can also be offered as treats.
Hermit Crabs can live 10+ years with proper care, depending on species and most will reach adult size within 2 years under ideal conditions.
Hermit crabs do need a temperature gradient of 70-80F, but this can generally be provided with an under tank heater. Although hermit crabs do not need UVB lighting, they should be provided with 10-12 hours of light for an appropriate day/night cycle.
Hermit crabs are social animals and do best in groups of 3 or more. Remember, you should never house other invertebrates with your hermit crabs.

bought three hermit crabs on June 28th. Two of them are very active and have even witnessed them changing shells a few times. However, the third one seems to be staying burrowed most of the time. I am concerned.
can saltwater hermit crabs live with out water
Can freshwater hermit crabs be with a beta fish
My hermit crab hasn’t changed her shell I bought her the right sizes and she hasn’t changed her shell for almost 3 months what should I do?
I recently got some hermit crabs. The nearest pet store to me is an hour away so I made a visit to purchase supplies. But I didn't get as much substrate as I needed, unfortunately. I was planning to go and get more when I had the chance. But I believe my largest crab is molting, it's trying to dig underground but there's not yet enough substrate for him to really bury himself yet. I know you should not bother a molting crab, but if I buy more substrate should I put it in there with him or wait
What do hermit crabs drink? Can they have bottled water, distilled water, spring water, or tap water?
So my hermit crab hasn't melted for about 8 months should I be worried?
Hermit crab is burrowing and hasn't molted for 3 days undisturbed. There is an ammonia smell, but it is still alive. Should he be isolated?
I found my hermit crab shell in my tank I think it’s dead but then I’ve seen legs inside of the tank and they moved what should I do oh an I took out the other shell
Is it safe to use well water treated with a water softener for our newly acquired hermit crabs? The salt levels are safe for humans, but I wanted to be sure about the hermit crabs. If so do we still use a water conditioner when there is no chlorine present?
Humidity in my hermit crab cage is too low, I cannot get a lid for it right now (too much money) is there anything at home I can use to cover it? (Plastic wrap with some air holes, anything)?
Hello! I'm looking to add some additional fish to my 36 gallon reef tank. So far, I have an orange firefish, 2 ocellaris clowns, a fire shrimp, a peppermint shrimp, and 4 blue legged hermit crabs. Do you have any recommendations other than damsels?
