At first glance, Keeping Chickens 101 can seem simple—like most living things, they need food, water and shelter. Provide them with clean water, wholesome food and a good chicken coop with the right bedding and nesting boxes, and you’re doing well—right? While this will meet their basic needs, many people turn to supplements for chickens to ensure their birds are getting all the nutrients they need.
While you can meet their minimum nutritional requirements with feed and grit, your birds will likely benefit from additional vitamins and minerals. Oyster shell supplements for chickens are one of the most common types, adding much-needed calcium to the diet. Baby chicks need vitamin B2 for growth and vitamin K to support their muscles, while vitamin A, E and D are essential vitamins for laying hens. The easiest way to ensure they get all the nutrients they need is through supplements for chickens.
The best supplements for chickens can be added naturally to their food or water. Supplements that are a part of their feeding process, like oyster shells or enhanced grit, will encourage natural behaviors like foraging. You can also add vitamins to their water source, especially for chicks, which may not eat as wide a variety of foods as adults.
Probiotics for chickens are microorganisms that populate the digestive tract with good bacteria. This leaves less room for pathogens, helping to support digestive health. You can give probiotics daily to birds of all ages, or you can feed them only after your chickens have experienced stress or have undergone treatment with antibiotics, both of which can reduce the number of good bacteria in the gut.

Which natural nutritional supplements do you reccomend for my Cavalier? I want to keep my girl healthy and with me for as long as possible. Cavaliers are known to have many health issues; particularly heart, eye, and joint.
My buddy, Peanut, is a senior of 10 years. He is very healthy, but I would like know what, if any supplements I could give Peanut to aid in him while aging. What should I look for? What should I avoid? I want the most scientifically advanced, proven supplement available. He's currently on a quality, grainfree kibble as I realize that proper diet and exercise is of most importance. Thank you kindly for any suggestions!

My dog has been on a homemade diet after being diagnosed with stage 3 kidney disease. I have been giving high quality lean protein with white rice & squash along with supplements-Hawthorne berry, CoQ10, ipakitine & vitamin b12. Now that I've reduced the protein even more in his meals, he doesn't seem as interested in eating as he was. Can I add chicken broth? Homemade with just dark chicken meat - no bones as I know they are high in phosphorus or will this addition be too high in protein?
