What's the best way to get my free-roaming bunny to use his cage?

He may be bored with the items in his cage. Keep a variety of toys and chew treats for him and rotate their usage to prevent boredom. You can also let him out of his cage for play and exercise each day. Supervision is required so he doesn't chew cords or wires. Rabbits do sleep and it would be good to provide a dark area or turn the lights off at night so he can rest.

It will take time for Julius to acclimate to his new cage. Provide plenty or toys and places for him to lay. Always have timothy hay or similar grasses available for him to eat. This should be what he eats most of the time. Rabbits will readily use a box if provided. Place a litterbox in the cage for him. Pick up droppings and place them in the box. For urine, use a tissue to soak it up then bury it in the litterbox. Be patient and be consistent.

Not many rabbits play with toys, the best thing you can do to help keeping them entertained is to let them outside the cage for at least 2-4 hours a day, they will roam around and keep themselves busy.

In terms of just general information, you'll want to make sure Nznz is getting an appropriate diet of leafy greens, timothy hay, occasional small amounts of alfalfa, and other fruits / vegetables. Rabbits have teeth that will continually grow throughout their life so they should ideally have something to chew on to keep them from growing inappropriately. Sometimes, they will require manual teeth trimming if they do not take care of this themselves. As far as when to keep him in and out of the cage, that will ultimately be a personal preference. If you intend to litterpan train him, I would wait until he is regularly using the litter box before allowing him to roam freely, just so he makes claim to a certain area. I recommend introducing Fluffy in a large clean cage with plenty of room for her to move around and clean soft bedding such as Care Fresh or soft wood shavings with plenty of food, toys and ideally a sheltered portion of the cage where she can hide/not be visible. Rabbits are prone to overheating and should be maintained at a temperature of about 15-21 C (60-70 F). If moving her in the winter, be sure to put her cage far from heater, if moving her in the summer (now I assume it is summer in Australia), just make sure that her room is air conditioned /does not get too hot. Offering fresh veggies and treats daily will likely minimize the stress of the move. In addition, try to keep Human/pet traffic/noise in her room at a minimum. Good luck!

Max sounds like he is trying to get your attention :) Rabbits are highly social creatures and when kept in small cages with little stimulation often get very bored and destructive. Is it possible for you to have "play time" with Max where he is allowed to run around loose in a playpen area inside the house, or in a fenced, safe backyard? Also, consider rabbit-safe toys like cardboard boxes and plenty of sticks and hay to chew on, for all your rabbits. Hope that helps!
