My rabbit is scratching. Are tiny red bugs on the floor mites or house bugs?

Mites would be the most common reason for scratching, mites cannot be seen with the naked eye at all (only under the microscope). you might want to take him to the vet in order to get a treatment for mites.

I'm sorry but without seeing these bugs there is not much I can tell you other than they may be lice. This is the only bug I can think of that may be white and that you can actually see with the naked eye. I strongly suggest you get Binky to your vet for an exam. They will be able to tell you what she has and what is the best treatment for her and for her hutch/environment.

It's very difficult to check for mites, when such an itching problem occurs the first thing that should be done is treating her for a possible mite infestation, i would recommend to take her to the vet ASAP, the treatment is usually by injection and it requires 3 sets of treatment 1 week apart.

Hi there! Pablo does look pretty itchy by those pictures. Mites are usually microscopic, so if you can see the bug it may be something different. I have seen many rats with lice. Lice are species specific so they are not likely to affect you. You can bathe him and buy a tiny comb to start picking out the bugs and eggs, but he will also likely need to see a veterinarian for medication to get rid of the infestation. Thorough cleaning of the cage and daily bedding changes will also need to be done. I hope he heals quickly!

From the photos, I am seeing some yellow like material near the surface of the skin as well as some white flakes. These could be due to an ectoparasite, such as mites, or it could be environmental. Due to the potential for an external parasite, I would recommend having him evaluated by a veterinarian in your area. This would allow them to take samples from the skin's surface and hairs to look at them under the microscope. Depending on what they find, they may prescribe a medication for parasites, or may provide some husbandry change suggestions. Hi there. Some possibilities of what may be causing Opie's symptoms would be: 1. Fur mites (microscopic so you will not see them) 2. Lice 3. Fleas 4. Ear mites 5. allergies 6. ringworm 7. bacterial skin infection Many of these things look similar grossly. It is impossible for me to know for sure what it is. I suggest you get Opie to your vet for an exam so you can get him the best treatment depending on what the underlying cause of his symptoms are. Hope this helps. Best wishes.
