Rabbit not eating: What baby food is safe? Which ingredients to avoid?

Julius is a great name for a Rabbit. I am a little confused by your questions. it sounds like Julius was eating the old pellets well but when you tried to transition him to new pellets he stopped eating. When you offered him the old pellets he started eating again. If this is correct I would recommend slowly offering the new pellets while cutting back on the old pellets. You can even put them in the cage in different areas. I would not recommend mixing the pellets incase it makes Julius not eat at all. It is very important for rabbits to eat a large amount of roughage like timothy hay. I would recommend 90% roughage and only 10 % pellets. I hope that helps

Hello, again. There is hardly any nutrition in your homemade formula, & the rabbit will starve to death if you do this. If the baby rabbit is still nursing, it needs milk until it can switch to a herbivore diet. Alfalfa is too rich in calcium for long term use and can increase the risk of kidney or bladder stones, or calcium sludge. The higher protein content could also provide more stress to the function of the kidneys. Continue to transition. She will eat it if she is hungry enough. Good luck.

Be careful using too much apple juice. It is very high in sugar. If you use it, you should dilute it 50:50 with water. Syringing plain water is best. Commercial rabbit food from the shop is good, as is cucumber (more for moisture than food) and do not feed too many cabbage leaves. You can try to go to a park and get some grass (Smilee Greens should be near you). Make sure your rabbit has fresh water available at all times.

I do not recommend giving oats as this is too concentrated for bunnies and can cause some severe upsets in their gastrointestinal tract. It's best to feed these little bunnies a good pelleted feed (i.e. Oxbow) that is made for juvenile rabbits. You should also give them free-choice hay (good quality like timothy or brome) along with plenty of fresh grass. I do not recommend introducing vegetables, or fruits until the bunnies are four months old. This diet will ensure your bunnies are getting the best nutrients and will ensure that they are well-adapted to eating the healthy stuff (grass, hay, quality pellets) rather than the junk (fruits and vegetables). Keep in mind that when you do add the fruits and vegetables to the diet, it should be no more than 10% of the total diet. As far as petting the bunnies...the more you do, the more they will be socialized with you and other people. There is no limit to how much you pat them. However, if you stop petting them as much, they will naturally start to be less social. Remember, always go slow and gentle with bunnies.
