How to treat rabbit mites, hair loss, and bedding with OTC products?

Rabbits can be treated for mites with ivermectin or revolution. I would however recommend taking Olaf to another vet to get the proper dosing. You do need to clean the cage every day for a least 1-2 weeks to help prevent re contamination from the mites. I hope that helps

Sometimes mites can be transmitted by commercial store-bought food or hay. You will need to take your rabbit to a veterinarian for an exam and proper diagnosis. The vet can then inject your rabbit with an acaricide that will get rid of the mites. You will also have to clean out thee cage thoroughly, wash it with bleach and rinse it well, and wash all toys and food and water containers in very hot water. Throw away the food and hay you have and buy new food with a long expiration date.

Thanks for reaching out about Moyel. Benzyl benzoate would not be good if ingested. Try topical aloe vera 100%. Pain medications from the veterinarian might also provide some comfort. Ivermectin is the appropriate treatment for mites but could there also be a secondary bacterial infection? Good luck.

Cheyletiela mites are often difficult to see with the naked eye, they can be treated either with ivermectin spot ons or Revolution spot ons, both are prescription medications that you will need to get from your vet.

Your rabbit likely has a mite infection. Stop the tea tree oil (it causes more problems) and you need to get him to a vet for an injection against mites. If you cannot go to a veterinarian , try to contact your local rabbit society, They may be able to help you.

The best flea / mite treatment and preventative in my opinion for rabbits Revolution, which is a prescription product marketed for cats and dogs. Typically, in a small Lionhead rabbit, you should use the smallest size of Revolution available, which is designed for kittens under 5 lbs. Hope this helps.
