My rabbit lost two partners. Is she traumatized? How to tell if sick?

I am so sorry that you lost your other bunny. I can understand that this is hard for you and for Sugar as well. It is normal for one pet to grieve when another has passed away. This can be a very stressful time for your rabbit. The biggest concern is that she’s not eating well. A rabbit that stops eating is at risk for developing gastric stasis which can be very painful and possible life-threatening condition. Continue doing your best to encourage her to eat and drink. Offer her her favorite snacks and treats if that is all she will take for now. Try to interact with her and pay more attention to her than you usually do to help comfort her. If she continues to not want to eat you may want to look into getting a critical care diet for herbivores such as Oxbow Critical Care to help supplement her eating. If she goes for more than 24 hours without eating then you should take her to the vet to help prevent gastric stasis from occurring. Again, I am so sorry for your loss. I hope this helps. I am sorry for your loss. I would recommend just making sure she has enough to play with and interactions with you. Not all rabbit pair bond well. So it is possible if you get a new rabbit rica might not get along with it. Rabbits like to play and interact These are important to prevent behavioral issues. Hope that helps

Lexi is very cute! It could be she is unhappy with her new housemate, but it could also be that she isn't feeling well. Because rabbits are prey animals, they are very good at hiding illnesses to avoid being targeted by predators. Given that she is acting differently than normal, it would be best to have her seen by a vet in the next day or two for a health check. I hope this helps!

Hi, It sounds like Luna may just be tired from the increased activity earlier in the day. However, if her appetite and defecation decrease or her behavior is otherwise altered, then that could certainly be a sign of illness. I think it’s fine to wait and monitor her, as long as she keeps eating and defeating nornally. If in doubt, don’t hesitate to take her in to see her veterinarian. Good luck!

It sounds like they could have a parasite or an infection causing the problem. It is very concerning that they both lost weight rapidly and one died. It would be best to have her examined by a vet to determine the cause and treat. Your vet can run some lab-work, if needed, and prescribe medications to treat. She may need some fluids for dehydration, antibiotics, de-wormer, etc. Besides trying to get her to eat and drink, there isn't much more you can do without veterinary care. I am sorry your rabbits are sick and passing away. I would try and locate an exotics vet somewhere around you. Even if you have to drive a little further. Unfortunately the picture and posture does not tell why they are sick. I get concerned about something contagious if you have had other rabbits die. I know it sounds sad but if a rabbit dies I would recommend taking it to the state lab for a necropsy (autopsy in people). This way they can take tissue samples and send it to the lab for hopefully a diagnosis. However we would prefer to keep the rabbits alive. Parasites like coccidia can cause death, infection, viruses, dental disease, toxins and maybe food source. The rabbits really need to have a fecal, blood work and maybe x-rays. You can try to force feed them at home with a product like critical care but they need to continue to eat or there intestines stop working which can cause fatality.

Sorry about the loss of your rabbit. I would be very careful about putting two rabbits in together. It should be a low transition and supervised. Some rabbits will not pair /bond with other rabbits. They will hurt each other. However some rabbits will do great. Just go slow and monitor closely
