Are sultanas safe for rabbits? How often can they eat them?

Seeds are very high in fat and oils and are a safe component to a healthy rabbbit diet. Some seed types can be fed as treats, but would be the equivalent of eating candy for a rabbit so it's not best practice to do this.

There is no known safe amount of sultanas for cats to eat. There is always a possibility of kidney failure. The (major) problem with treating these guys is that you don't know if it's going to cause kidney failure until it's too late. They don't act different or ill until they are life threateningly ill. The only way to treat them is to go to the clinic, make her vomit if it was within an hour or maybe 2, then keep her on IV fluids for a day or two. And some cats can eat sultanas without any problems. We just don't know how each individual will react. So I know that's not the most helpful answer, but that's the more accurate one we have. You can chance it and do nothing and there is a good chance everything will be fine, or you can take her to the clinic immediately for hospitalization. Good luck!

Hi Jaime! There are a lot of fruits and veggies that are safe for rabbits. Leafy greens, like kale, parsley, and cilantro should make up the bulk of their non-pellet, non-hay treats, but fruits in moderation can be great for them, too. Bits of apple, strawberry, pear, papaya, mango, banana, and apricots are good choices. Make sure that they are washed well, and that they don't encompass more than 5-10% of your rabbits' diet. Avoid avocado, all seeds and pits, and wild fruits and veggies. Good luck!

It shouldn't kill her, but it may cause stomach upset. Make sure she continues to eat and drink over the next couple days. Offer as much timothy hay, oat hay or similar grasses as she will eat. Monitor for lethargy, loss of appetite or loose droppings. If she stops eating, have her seen by your veterinarian right away. Discontinue any treats for the next few days.

Hello. Bun Bun should have access to both dry hay and fresh grass. While rabbits like to chew on fresh grass they also should eat dry hay to regulate and stimulate their gastro-intetinal tract. Please, remeber to offer vegetables, like cucmber, lettuce or small amount of carrot. You can add also a piece of apple from time to time. Be careful with other 'weeds' as some plants may cause gastro-intestinal problems in rabbits.

I do not recommend giving oats as this is too concentrated for bunnies and can cause some severe upsets in their gastrointestinal tract. It's best to feed these little bunnies a good pelleted feed (i.e. Oxbow) that is made for juvenile rabbits. You should also give them free-choice hay (good quality like timothy or brome) along with plenty of fresh grass. I do not recommend introducing vegetables, or fruits until the bunnies are four months old. This diet will ensure your bunnies are getting the best nutrients and will ensure that they are well-adapted to eating the healthy stuff (grass, hay, quality pellets) rather than the junk (fruits and vegetables). Keep in mind that when you do add the fruits and vegetables to the diet, it should be no more than 10% of the total diet. As far as petting the bunnies...the more you do, the more they will be socialized with you and other people. There is no limit to how much you pat them. However, if you stop petting them as much, they will naturally start to be less social. Remember, always go slow and gentle with bunnies. These guys are born to be terrified of everything, so any traumatic event will make them more and more scared of people. I hope that helps and all is well with the bunnies.
