Will my pregnant rat's mycoplasma affect her babies? Can I prevent it?

LCMV is a rare disease in rats in general and even more rare in domestic rats. there are several blood tests available to detect the disease in rats, your vet will need to take a blood sample and send it to a special laboratory. i have personally never recommended nor sent blood to perform this test in any of my rat patients.

Mycoplasma pulmonalis infection is a common problem in rats and it is very hard to get rid of the infection. Only a few special antibiotics will work so you will need to make a class trip to the vet for an exam and a prescription of an antibiotic that works This would usually be something like tylosin, tetracyclin, enrofloxacin, etc., all of which are prescription antibiotics.

At home you probably can't do much for her, she is probably suffering from an infection, it could related to the pregnancy (pyometra), you will have to take her to the vet ASAP in order to get her checked and treated but it's hard for me to tell you what treatment she will need without having some tests done.

If there is any suspicion of leptospira infection antibiotics can be possibly given even if pregnant (for example Amoxycillin and clavulanic acid). Make sure the cages are not too close one to another to avoid any direct contact, you should also wash your hands after you handle the rat withe respiratory issue to avoid transmitting the disease to the healthy one.

Antibiotics can be used to treat the infection but is it difficult to determine if they are clear of the infection and the bacteria can live dormant deep in the nasal sinuses. Antibiotics can often improve clinical signs, but often is not curable, so this could be an on-again/off-again problem. A veterinary visit is required to prescribe to appropriate antibiotics.
