What body signs indicate my pregnant rabbit is going into labor?

However, if Basil is pregnant, it is likely that she may be pulling hair from her dewlap (the flap of fur/skin right below the chin/on the neck) to make her nest. They are quite cute! The best way to determine pregnancy in a rabbit is via a physical exam. Other symptoms include weight gain, nesting, fur pulling or aggressive behavior. Gestation is short, about 4 weeks. They can mate as soon as a few days after kindling (giving birth), so it would be recommended to separate them until you can determine genders and pregnancy status. Thanks for reaching out about Lola. Late in the pregnancy you might be able to palpate fetuses, but should be careful not to damage them. With pseudopregnancy she can nest build, have mammary development and vulvar engorgement and lactate, so not easy to tell. A veterinarian should be able to ultrasound, but you will know in a short time either way as gestation is less that a month. Good luck.

It is very possible that she is having a false pregnancy as you have already suggested. This process is called psuedocyesis and is very common in rabbits shortly after their pregnancy has completed. Unless you are seeing other signs of illness or she persists with this behavior for several more days, I would not seek veterinary attention at this time. Continue to make sure she is eating and drinking normal amounts and that her bowel movements look an appropriate consistency. There is a drug available to stop false pregnancies, but this is not something I would suggest using at this time. Hope this helps!

I suggest you refer to this link for information. If she is pregnant she is pretty young. They can get pregnant as soon as 12 weeks of age but it is not that common. It is better that she not be pregnant this young so if she happens to not be pregnant then don't breed her until she is a bit older.
