My pregnant guinea pig's babies aren't all moving. Is one lost?

Well, guinea pigs gestation period is about 65 days, and of course she has to have some contact with a male. In the past, I have been able to tell if they are pregnant by palpation. Also, if you gingerly placer your hands on either side of her belly you may be able to feel moving piglets. If she is an adult and has never had a litter please take her to see a veterinarian. Female guinea pigs can have a very tough tough me delivering if their pelvis has matured completely. Good luck to you and Rosey.

This could be a malformed baby in the afterbirth or a mummified baby. As long as your Copiyo feels good, eats, drinks and appears lively, you don't have to worry. Should she appear I'll, she needs to be seen by a vet.

Thanks for reaching out about Nibbles. We can't determine whether the babies are alive or not. You might have to gently disturb the nest and observe the babies for breathing or moving. Do not touch them unless determined dead, to remove, as humane scent on the babies might cause mother to further neglect. I still not sure, the whole cage can be quietly moved and taken to a veterinary clinic for assessment. Good luck.

As long as the baby is nursing regularly I wouldn’t be too concerned at this point. It is normal for the babies to lose a small amount of weight the first week or so of life. If the baby isn’t nursing or the mom is ignoring the baby or if the mom seems reluctant to eat, then I would be concerned. I hope this helps. Thanks for reaching out but you need to take her to the veterinarian. Not sure if this is a back injury or a systemic illness. Try to observe to determine if Pancake is actually nursing or just going through the motions. Babies are very delicate so a vet visit is recommended as soon as possible. Good luck.

Normally guinea pig labor should be short, around 40 minutes, so if an hour has passed since Elsa has her baby with no sign of the other, I would take her into the vet immediately. It could be that her second baby is too big to come out, and she may need a c section to deliver that baby safely. I would take her into an ER vet or find a vet on call to see her now.
