You can observe just in case there are any problems. It should be a relatively quick process. If Coco is labor for more than hour, you need to take her into a vet immediately. If you see a lot of blood, she should see a vet right away. I hope this helps!

Hello. I am concerned about Sylvester. Is she in any distress? Is she straining as if trying to deliver? Any bleeding? Are the 2 remaining pups still viable ( were heartbeats confirmed )? You do not say what the injections were & how long ago they were administered, but in general, GPs do not have too many problems giving birth. I think my biggest concern is she already delivered a dead pup quite some time ago. I would recommend a C-section at this time, especially if there is any bleeding or she is showing any signs of distress. You are right that the typical gestation of guinea pigs is 63-65 days. If she is showing no indication of entering labor, there could be a problem. The Association of Exotic Mammal Veterinarians (AEMV.org) probably has a "Find the Vet" section. Otherwise, not sure where the closed veterinary school is to you. A small animal veterinarian with an ultrasound might be able to determine if there are any fetal heartbeats. Many small animal veterinarians could have oxytocin, which could be given to stimulate uterine contractions.

Hello and welcome to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. I am sorry about your little Guinea pig. In terms of survival of the baby, you have a difficult road ahead of you. Unfortunately it will be very hard to get this little baby through alive, but it is worth trying. You will need to feed the little pig a product called Critical Care. Milk is not good for Guinea pigs so don't feed this. Some pigs will eat off a spoon and some will need to be syringe fed. It is important to syringe feed very slowly and carefully to avoid having the fluid go into the lungs or causing aspiration. Also, it is important to weigh little Zeke immediately, and daily, to ensure that Zeke is properly gaining weight. Keeping Zeke the right temperature is important as well, so make sure Zeke has a warm, dry and clean environment. Zeke will also require help urinating and defecating for the first week or so, so ensure you are wiping the genitals and anus with a wet, warm cloth multiple times a day and that Zeke is peeing and pooping. Also, make sure there are pellets, grass, greens and hay available for Zeke to start eating as soon as he is ready. It is best to have Zeke seen by an exotics specialist as well to discuss other husbandry issues. Best of luck with Zeke!

this is definitely not normal, it is likely to be a uterine infection which can be life threatening if left untreated. treatment with antibiotic would probably be the first option but it is often not successful, in such a case a surgery to have the uterus removed would be needed.

This could be a malformed baby in the afterbirth or a mummified baby. As long as your Copiyo feels good, eats, drinks and appears lively, you don't have to worry. Should she appear I'll, she needs to be seen by a vet.

Your sow may have a piglet stuck in the birth canal if she has not produced another within 30 minutes of the last one born. There should not be more than 30 minutes between piglets. It is likely she has more piglets waiting to be born, as it would be rare for her only to have 2 piglets. best to call a veterinarian for help. He would examine the cause for the dystocia (piglet could be too big to pass through the pelvical opening, or birth canal, it could be blocking the birth canal, etc.) The vet will then try to remove the obstacle and hopefully birthing can continue naturally. Your sow may also be exhausted and need an injection to be able to continue with contractions.
