My orphaned bunny's feet and ears have poor circulation. What to do?

A rabbit as young as Orro should still be with his mother. Bunnies should not be separated until they are at least 8 weeks of age. They will start nibbling solid food at 2 weeks of age but still require mother's milk and nursing. Orro should be examined by a veterinarian experienced in treating rabbits to make sue there is no illness or injury. Since she just gave birth, her body has been under some continual stress (from pregnancy, then birth, now lactating). This state can weaken her immune system, and make her more prone to skin infections. If the sores do not seem painful, are not bothering her, and she's otherwise acting fine--I would recommend that you change her bedding, and wash her feet gently with just water and very mild soap once a day. To wash her feet, fill a tub or basin with about an inch of water, add a tiny bit of soap, and put a towel in the bottom of the basin for her to stand on so she doesn't kick wildly or hurt herself. Then dry her gently with a clean towel and do not put her back into her bedding until she has dried off. If washing her feet daily for a few days and changing bedding daily doesn't help, make an appointment with your veterinarian. If she is acting sick in any way, don't wait, call your vet --even if they are closed, they will have a message for how to get her emergency care (either an emergency number or an emergency clinic that you can call).

If Hopper is truly 3 weeks old instead of 1 week, you can start feeding him some solid food sooner than later. If you believe that there is any chance Hopper might be ill, you may want to have him checked out by a wildlife vet or one that is familiar with rabbits. I am so sorry that this is happening to you and Luna, and thank you for the photos. They are very helpful. I would agree with you - from the photos it looks like the ends of Luna's ears are not receiving appropriate amounts of blood flow. This can be due to infections, or inflammation of the blood vessels. This may also fit with the process that is occurring on Luna's back. If she is not feeling well, this may explain the weight loss that you are appreciating. I would recommend Luna be evaluated by a veterinarian - they can look at her skin and determine the process that is going on. They may recommend diagnostic testing to evaluate the skin, and to perform systemic blood work to evaluate for infections. She may require medications for treatment, and unfortunately she may lose the ends of her ears if the blood flow has been absent for an extended period of time. I am sorry to hear that Paisley isn’t feeling well, and thank you for your question. From what you are describing, she could have an ear infection. Unfortunately this is very common in lop eared rabbits, and often gets quite severe before they show any clinical signs at home. It may also be affecting both ears, and she may not be showing it. Ear infections can be simple and only affect the external ear, or they can be deep and be present past the ear drum and into the middle and inner ear. My recommendation would be to take Paisley to a veterinarian who is familiar with rabbits. They can perform an exam of the ears and collect samples to look for infection. They can then prescribe anti-inflammatory pain relievers and may prescribe antibiotics as well. If they suspect that the infection may be deep, they would recommend imaging with radiographs (x-rays) or a CT scan. Please don’t give Paisley any human medications, as many of them are harmful to our furry friends. I would not recommend cleaning the ears until you have visited the vet either, as many cleaners are not safe to use if you don’t know if the ear drum is intact or not (i.e. they can be damaging/toxic to the middle and inner ear).
