Why is my bunny losing weight, has hard ears, and bites on her back?

Pet's info: Small Animal | Rabbit | Male | unneutered | 3 years old | 5 lbs

My bunny is 2 yrs old and her ears are hard like and it’s like their is no flesh or blood going thew their she’s got what look like bites on her back. She is loosing weight fast even though she is still eating what is wrong what can I do?

I am so sorry that this is happening to you and Luna, and thank you for the photos. They are very helpful. I would agree with you - from the photos it looks like the ends of Luna's ears are not receiving appropriate amounts of blood flow. This can be due to infections, or inflammation of the blood vessels. This may also fit with the process that is occurring on Luna's back.
If she is not feeling well, this may explain the weight loss that you are appreciating.
I would recommend Luna be evaluated by a veterinarian - they can look at her skin and determine the process that is going on. They may recommend diagnostic testing to evaluate the skin, and to perform systemic blood work to evaluate for infections. She may require medications for treatment, and unfortunately she may lose the ends of her ears if the blood flow has been absent for an extended period of time.

Thanks for reaching out about Bun Bun. Would describe it as flakey skin or loose? Loose lends one to believe the skin is sloughing. Flakey skin could be due to parasites, an infection, skin inflammation (multiple causes). Another concern might be myxomatosis, which is usually transmitted via a mosquito bite.. Sorry to hear that Luna is having some issues. Sometimes in rabbits, symptoms that appear to be of a neurologic origin can actually have to do with problems with the ears. I would recommend having her ears thoroughly examined and cleaned if necessary. Another possibility is if Luna has been affected by the micro E. Cuniculi. This is a protozoal organism that can affected multiple bodily systems, one of which is neurologic. The treatment for this condition is typically antibiotics, dewormers, and anti-inflammatories. These would be my top two suspicions, so I would contact a vet who is familiar with rabbits and have her examined some time soon.

Why is my rabbit losing weight and fur despite eating normally?

It definitely sounds like something serious is going on with Bun Bun. If his appetite is still good and his stools are normal but he is losing weight I would be concerned with either intestinal parasites or cancer causing him to get a lack of nutrients. This would explain the hairloss as well. I would recommend taking Bun Bun to your veterinarian to be examined. Your vetnwill most likely want to run some blood work and possibly do X-rays as well. My bunny is sick with swollen ears and nose. What should I do now?

Hello, and thank you for your question. It looks like Pluffy has some sort of skin infection. One possibility is rabbit syphilis (treponema), which is a type of bacterial infection. Another possibility is a systemic infection (sepsis). I would highly recommend taking Pluffy to the vet within the next 24 hours. They can administer antibiotics and pain medication to heal the infection. In the meantime, encourage her to eat a more balanced diet which includes plenty of timothy hay, and limited pellets (no more than 1/4 cup a day). Keep her environment clean. Why is my rabbit losing weight, not eating, and has a runny nose?

With the discharge from her nose I would suspect that she has some sort of respiratory issue going on. Rabbits are very prone to pasteurella infection and this can cause weight loss over time and make them generally unwell. With any disease rabbits will be under stress which puts them at risk of gut stasis. Running bloods could help to establish if their is an active infection and if any other organs are involved.
