Just got a guinea pig. Does she need a vet visit if she's healthy?

What cute pigs! It is always a good idea to have a vet examine any new pet so that you have an established relationship with a vet in case any health issues arise in the future. They can also look your pigs over and be sure they appear healthy!

It isn't "necessary", just strongly recommended. Any pet should be examined upon arriving home to confirm good health or to diagnose and treat any preexisting conditions. Yearly exams are also recommended for much the same reason.

Yes! Guinea pigs should have a wellness checkup at least once a year. It is best for you to establish a good working relationship with a vet that is well versed in caring for guinea pigs. If this is just for a health check/general check up you can take her to a regular vet, but if she is suffering from a medical condition you might want to make sure the vet you are going to has experience treating guinea pigs, usually exotic vet specialists are a better option.

It is always a great idea to take any new pet to see a veterinarian if at all possible. They can examine your bunny and make sure there are no health concerns - no skin parasites, good teeth and nails etc. They can also discuss husbandry and make sure you are feeding the most appropriate diet, and have a good housing set up. They may also recommend having your bunny spayed when she is a little bigger and older to keep her as healthy as possible. Congrats on your new bunny!!

Guinea pigs don’t need any vaccinations but it’s a good idea to take them to see your vet for yearly check ups, to monitor weight, teeth, claws, skin, feeding routines etc. Also find details of a good exotic vet where you could take them for any particular condition that your vet might not be able to treat or advise you on. In general Guinea pigs have only a few health issues if compared to other animal species. Hope this helps !

They are very cute! From the pictures, yes they do look healthy, but please keep in mind I can't say this for certain without seeing them in person. If you have concerns about their health, I recommend having them checked out by a vet. I hope this helps :-)
