Help! My two new male guinea pigs are fighting. What should I do?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

I bought two male guinea pigs who were housed together at the store. I’ve had them less than a week and I’m had to separate them for fighting multiple times. I’ve owned them less than a week, what do I do? They have two water bottles, two feed bowls, and their cage is bigger than what was at the store.

Thanks for reaching out. Not all animals get along. The biggest question is are they fighting or trying to establish hierarchy. Separate then for now and introduce them slowly in a neutral territory.
Neutering them to lower testosterone might help.
You should contact the store, to see if they can help also.
