Is it a good idea to get a male rabbit to live with my female bunny?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Small Animal | Rabbit | Female | unspayed | 3 months and 3 days old

I have a female 12 week old bunny. I want to get her a friend, I heard male bunnies are extremely affectionate and cuddly, so I wanted a male. But I just thought I’d get some advice first if it’s wrong to mix a male and female.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! While it isn’t an issue to have a male and female bunny, I would strongly recommend staying and neutering them prior to introducing them, especially if they are old enough to reproduce.
