My hedgehog had a dewormer overdose. Should I take him to the vet?

The quills may fall off if they were damaged. They should grow back unless the follicle was damaged. You can use dilute Betadine (1 part Betadine to 10 parts water) to clean the wounds until you can get him to the vet on Monday. You should be able to get Betadine at any pharmacy. Make sure it is solution and not scrub. ( https://www.walmart.com/ip/Betadine-Solution-Topical-Antiseptic-Bactericide-Liquid-0-5-Oz/47574887 ) If you can't get this you can go to Petco and get this Vetericyn wound spray. ( ) He will need antibiotics orally so definitely get him to your vet as soon as you can. Watch him closely because I would be more worried about any internal injuries he may have. If he starts to seem very sick you need to get him to an ER vet ASAP. Best wishes.

Oh my, he does looks quite sick. He looks quite old as well. Unfortunately, there is nothing you can do at home for him. If you wanted to give him the best chance at survival you would need to get him to a vet for an exam. Hopefully the vet will be able to treat him (depending on what he has going on). It should like Comet is getting really sick. Hedgehogs can get bladder stones, urinary tract issues but also endocrine disease (issues with cortisol) and cancers. I would recommend taking Comet to a vet for a good physical exam and possible bloodwork and x-rays. IT is important to figure out the exact cause so proper treatment can be started. I’m sorry to hear about your hedgehog. There is a progressive neurologic disorder in these guys called “Wobbly Hedgehog Syndrome”. I am suspicious that this may be the problem. However other issues such as brain tumor, trauma, etc could be the cause as well. I would try using a dropper to drop water into his mouth to keep him hydrated until you can get him to the exotic veterinarian. Any potential eye infection or injury should be considered veterinary emergencies. Atticus should be examined by your veterinarian, a veterinary ophthalmologist or at the nearest veterinary ER as soon as you can. Ideally, any new pet should be examined by a veterinarian within 72 hours of arriving home to confirm good health or to diagnose and treat any pre existing conditions.

I'm not sure how many tablets Pepper ate or the brand of medication and it's ingredients, but toxicity can occur with an overdose of heartworm medication. If he ate all of it, I'm assume he ate a full package, so I would take him into a vet right away. If it's been less than two hours since he ate it, he can be induced to vomit Bring the package of the mediation with you.
