Dog bit my hedgehog: bleeding, quills off. How to care until vet?

Disinfection may be started at home with very diluted hibiscrub or betadine or salted water baths twice daily. If the cut does not heal in the next 4-5 days or is worsening a check up would be required. Neosporin is not needed at this stage, if the cut is small and minor as you described, disinfection will be enough. Buster collar may be useful as well to avoid any scratching (if any). Poor Sonic! He should be seen by a vet as soon as possible. Eye conditions, especially those involving the cornea can be extremely painful. They can also progress very quickly and even result in loss of the eye. Your vet can prescribe antibiotic drops, pain medication, and help any damage to the cornea heal quickly. In the meantime, you can carefully trim his nails to prevent any further trauma he may cause while scratching. I hope this helps and that Sonic gets better soon!

Hi there. Before applying anything I recommend taking Cedric in to see your vet to make sure that he doesn't have bumblefoot-a type of pododermatitis that can cause the symptoms you are describing. If that is the case, he will likely need systemic antibiotics, as well as a few changes in his surroundings to prevent reoccurrence.

I recommend cleaning all of the wounds with hydrogen peroxide. Then apply a thin film of antibacterial ointment on them. Keep him quiet so he can rest and heal. Dog fight wounds get infected easily so please make sure to bring him right in tomorrow morning for treatment. I would go ahead and take him to the vet. My concern is that if you wait a few days and it was toxic for him that it may be too late to save him. Your vet will be able to assess him and see if there is any internal damage. Take the product packaging with you if you can.

All I can tell you without a photo is that if you are worried you should take Chubbers to any vet that can fit you in now. Chances are he will be just fine until Monday. If your vet thinks he needs antibiotics they will prescribe them at that time. I doubt 2 days is going to make a huge difference. In the meantime you could soak the foot in an Epsom salt bath for 10 minutes, dry the foot well and then apply a thin layer of Neosporin. You can do this twice a day until you can get him to your vet. Hope this helps. Best wishes.

Thanks for reaching out about Taz. Sorry but not photos were included. It sure seems like a veterinary visit is needed, sooner than later. A swollen back end including blood is worrisome, and sign that he is quiet and eating less, is even more serious. You should see a veterinarian tomorrow. Good luck.
