Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Small Animal | Hamster | Female

hello! I have a problem with my Syrian hamster, two days ago I realised that she did not taking a poop her belly is swollen and she isn't that active like before. I went with her to the vet and we got antybiotyk sulfatrim plus recovery liquid feed for small herbivores. the problem is that she is not drinking any water Im forcing her to drink at least small amount. I gave her today one drop of olive oil and yogurt plus wegatebles.. can you help me what else can I do for her?

Thanks for reaching out about Tosha. There is the possibility that this is not a gastrointestinal issue, or an infection. Female hamsters can also have reproductive problems (uterine neoplasia, pyometras and more. Urinary problems can also cause similar clinical signs. Your local veterinarian should be contacted again, as diagnostic tests might need to be performed to achieve a diagnosis. Try not to give mineral oil or yogurt again, as this can cause serious gastrointestinal upset.
Good luck.
