My hamster is just sitting in the corner. Is he ill or injured?

Poor chip. It is hard to say what is causing the abnormal activity with out examining him. I would recommend taking him to a vet for a good exam to determine if he has a fracture or soft tissue injury. The vet can provide pain control which will keep him more comfortable. hope that helps

Hello, A fall could cause a traumatic brain injury, a spinal injury, bone fractures, or internal bleeding. If Casper has returned to normal activity levels and is eating well, he is likely fine. If Casper becomes lethargic or disinterested in food, it may be a sign of illness or pain that he needs to be seen by a vet. I hope this helps. Hopefully he will be fine. However, limping could indicate a leg injury. Lethargy and decreased appetite could indicate internal damage/ or bleeding. Since Chompie is not using her hind leg and if you believe it may be broken, I recommend having her seen by a veterinarian. Hamsters often hide any signs of pain since they are prey species. Your veterinarian will be able to closely examine Chompie and may recommend x-rays to look for evidence of a fracture. Other possible causes include neurologic diseases that are making the leg nonfunctional. Your veterinarian may recommend splinting the leg if it is fractured, or may recommend pain medications if indicated. I hope this is helpful!

Thanks for reaching out about Greg. If you are referring to he was dropped from a distance, and then tried to bite, he could be painful. If you mean he is falling over on his own, it could be he is neurologic. If the problem persists, a veterinary visit is needed. Monitor for appetite and activity. Good luck.

I am sorry to hear about Chippy. These are concerning signs and I would recommend getting Chippy into the vet as soon as possible. We would be concerned depending on his age about a respiratory infection or a heart issue. He may be able to be treated with antibiotics or other medication if an infection is the cause. Ensure he is in a draft free room with no air pollutants such as smoke, candles, air fresheners and has very clean cage with minimal dust (carefresh style paper shavings are the best) which can irritate the respiratory tract and get him to the vet right away.
