My hamster has body oil on his fur. Is it toxic if he licks it?

Oils on the fur will compromise the ability to insulate and since hamsters are proficient self-groomers, it will be ingested, possibly causing gastrointestinal upset (wet tail). I apologize, I am not sure if I understand your question. I am not sure if you mean that there is something on Koda's coat, or if you are concerned about drying his coat and skin out by using this product. I will speak to a normal hamster, and if this is not correct, please re-post your question. Normal hamsters typically are very fastidious, which means they are very concerned about their appearance. :) They are very good at grooming and keeping clean, and often do not require bathing at all. This can change as hamsters get older, or if they get sick. The reason for this is that when these changes occur, hamsters may not feel well and then they don't put as much effort into their grooming. Excessive bathing can result in drying of the skin and coat, which can be irritating and may cause Koda to begin scratching or bothering his skin. I would recommend using caution with bathing if Koda is a normal, healthy hamster. I hope that helps to answer your question!

I would make sure the peroxide is completely off her body, by rinsing it with water as much as possible. Dry her up after the bath very carefully. If you rinse peroxide completely off, it should not be any dangerous. You can try some mineral oil or coconut oil to see if that will help get the glue from her fur. She is likely exhausted from trying to get off the glue trap. If she doesn't start perking up in the next day or two or if she is refusing to eat (especially her favorite treats) then I would have your vet take a look at her. You vet will be able to make sure everything looks okay and prescribe her any pain meds if needed. I hope this helps!

If he seems okay otherwise and was not burned, I would suggest keeping an eye on him and helping him get the wax off his face. I also recommend not letting him ingest the wax as it may contain chemicals that could be harmful to him.

for right now, keeping Eliot fed & providing adequate moisture is the key. Soaking his pellets, offering fruit & vegetable baby foods, even using Oxbows Critical Care for bunnies is appropriate. If he is still symptomatic on Monday, have your veterinarian evaluate him in case he needs deworming or an antibiotic. Hello. You are looking at the normal scent glands found on all hamsters. Nothing to worry about. If Gert continues to be lethargic, or develops any sneezing, coughing, or wheezing, then I would be concerned about a respiratory infection & he should see a veterinarian.
