Is hamster food with grape seeds safe for my pet? Is it a good diet?

Hello, This is a great question. This food should be fine for your hamster since they have similar teeth to rats and mice. However, seeds are very high in fat and have little vitamin content. Therefore, they’re considered “junk food” and really should be a minority of the diet. A rodent block type food (the ones that are very boring looking, tan, and all look the same) would be idea as he majorly of the diet. These rodent blocks come in different sizes for rats vs hamsters but they’re likely the same formulation.

A hamster needs fresh fruits and vegetables as well as grains and greens. You can feed him daily in the morning or in the evening. Acceptable vegetables and greens include romaine lettuce, cauliflower, squash, spinach, broccoli, carrots and cucumbers. However, I would stick to no more than a few small pieces each day, and reserve the rest of her diet as hamster pellets (ideally with no extra nuts or seeds). Thanks for reaching out about Fluff and including photos. Peanuts and other seeds are not healthy, too high in fat and low in nutrients. Pellets can be used as a supplement, but free choice to a good quality hay (timothy, not alfalfa) is the primary diet for guinea pigs. Since their teeth (incisors and cheek teeth) grow throughout life, hay is helpful on wearing the teeth down as it requires lots of chewing. It is also low in calories, which is good. The diet can be supplemented with 1/4 c of fresh vegetables. Good luck.

Thanks for reaching out about Max. Hamsters don't eat much hay, eating mostly seed, vegetables and in the wild eat grasses. Too much vegetables can result in soft stool or diarrhea so new vegetable should be added slowly. Good luck.
