Why is my guinea pig suddenly very sick and barely breathing?

unfortunately there is very little you can do at home to help him, this problem will require a diagnosis first and medications to treat it. all you can do to keep him comfortable is to make sure he is neither too hot nor too cold, keep him at a comfortable room temperature (usually cold is more of an issue when a guinea pig is unwell).

I am so sorry. If Brownie doesn't take a couple of breaths in 1 minute, he may have already passed away. If he is still breathing, even if very slowly, make sure he stays warm, you can try to rub some honey on his gums to prevent hypoglycemia. If he can swallow, you can syringe some water or pedialyte very, very slowly so that it doesn't accidentally go into his lungs. He should see a vet as soon as one opens.

I am so sorry! Since it has been a few days she may still heal on her own. I am concerned though that she may have a broken rib or puncture lung since she is breathing heavily. I wish I had a great home care treatment for her but it sounds like she needs extensive medical care to ease her pain and help her heal. You could call the vet that saw her and see if they can prescribe any pain meds or additional pain meds to help her. Plus without seeing her and knowing exactly what is going on, it is hard for me to give any recommendations. If she is continuing to suffer and treatment isn't an option, you may want to consider humane euthanasia so she doesn't continue to suffer. I'm sorry and I hope she starts to heal.

I am sorry to hear about Pea. If she is consistently having heavy breathing with noticable body movement likely due to the effort I would recommend bringing her in to see the vet. She could have something like a respiratory infection that requires treatment, and with respiratory difficulty the sooner we address the problem the better the chance of a fast and full recovery!

Guinea pigs are delicate creatures and generally do not handle stress of illness well, but the good news is that it sounds like she is on the right medications to treat her pneumonia. If you are not seeing an improvement in her breathing in the next 2-3 days, I would take her back to the vet and see if they need to make any adjustments to her antibiotics or other medications. Thanks for arching out about Hoke. These signs are general of pain. Possibilities include fractured limb, but also a urinary calculi/obstruction. A visit to a veterinarian today is highly recommended. Radiographs will probably be needed. This does appear to be serious. Good luck.

Thanks for reaching out but you need to take her to the veterinarian. Not sure if this is a back injury or a systemic illness. Try to observe to determine if Pancake is actually nursing or just going through the motions. Babies are very delicate so a vet visit is recommended as soon as possible. Good luck.
