Why is my guinea pig's eye puffy, losing weight, and eating slowly?

Weight loss, this can be caused by many things. Visit your veterinarian as soon as possible so Donald can have an examination. Causes of weight loss include dental problems, liver or kidney diseases, intestinal disease, endocrine disease, infection and toxins — just to name a few. Your veterinarian, using his or her skills of examination and possibly some tests, can best tell what is wrong with your guinea pig.

Dyba may have an issue with his facial nerves or muscles, making it difficult to bite/chew food. Loss of appetite can be caused by many intestinal conditions, but less specific conditions as well, such as cancer or infections. I recommend having Dyba seen by another vet, you may want to look into having him seen by someone who specializes in small mammals or pocket pets. In the meantime, you can try moistening his pellets to make them easier to eat. I hope this helps and that all is well!

He needs to be seen as soon as possible by your local veterinarian. Unfortunately the signs you are describing are quite severe and concerning and possibly a gastrointestinal inflammation/infection is present. I would recommend an immediate check up, radiographs, antibiotics and supportive treatment (fluidtherapy) are required.

I would be concerned that your guinea pig is not eating well and it may indicate that her infection is having a detrimental effect on her overall health. You may need to weigh her daily to ensure weight gain. Continue offering her food as frequently as you can to encourage her to eat. You may also want to try a critical care supplement that you can give her to help increase her caloric intake. If Angel has not been eating well for more than a 2-3 days then I would recommend taking her in to the vet for a thorough check up. She may need additional medication to help her get to feeling well. Thanks for reaching out about Boomer and including pictures. It does appear as if the tissue under the eye is swollen, the eye itself red and possible air bubbles inside the eye. Possible causes are trauma to the eye (scratch, perforation) or an infection. Glad to hear he is still eating and acting well, but it is recommended to have a veterinarian examine 'Boomer and the eye to evaluate the condition and generate a treatment plan. Try and keep it clean with a warm wet washcloth for now.

Good morning! Yes, that sounds like a worry for sure, although I'm glad he did eat some food overnight. The wet patch could be drool; perhaps he is having trouble with his teeth? It was a smart idea to weigh him, and this proves that he is likely dehydrated, having lost a fair bit of weight overnight. The veterinarian will use an ophthalmic scope to evaluate the eyes. He will likely need an eye drop or ointment. Is he sneezing or having any other signs of disease? If so, he could have an upper respiratory tract infection and may need an antibiotic. I hope this information helps!
