What's wrong? My guinea pig is lethargic, won't eat, and off balance.

My cavy is lethargic and refusing to eat. She has lost her balance and is very very quiet. I think that she is ill. HELP!!!

This is a quite generic but concerning sign. Differentials are many, from gastrointestinal diseases (infection/inflammations often dietary related) to any disease that can spread systemically (causing lethargy for example) like infection, and anything that can cause pain/discomfort.
Loss of balance could be due to a neurological problem affecting the vestibular system (the one in charge of maintaining the balance). Very commonly middle ear inflammation is responsible for the vestibular system.
The approach must be logic, starting from offering different kind of food. A check up is needed if inappetence last for more than 24hours.

My guinea pig's head is tilted and she won't eat. What's wrong?

Hello! Yes, I would recommend taking her to a vet clinic to get her checked out. I would be worried about a possible ear infection causing her to feel off balance and nauseous. Dental disease can also lead to tooth abscesses that can affect the ears as well, and could be why she isn't eating. A vet can perform a thorough physical exam and may suggest sedation if she is painful, or x-rays to examine her teeth. I hope this helps! My guinea pig is sick: not eating, losing weight, crusty eyes. What to do?

He needs to be seen as soon as possible by your local veterinarian. Unfortunately the signs you are describing are quite severe and concerning and possibly a gastrointestinal inflammation/infection is present. I would recommend an immediate check up, radiographs, antibiotics and supportive treatment (fluidtherapy) are required.

Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Issues with teeth are very common in guinea pigs, and do frequently result in issues eating. Dyba may have an issue with his facial nerves or muscles, making it difficult to bite/chew food. Loss of appetite can be caused by many intestinal conditions, but less specific conditions as well, such as cancer or infections. I recommend having Dyba seen by another vet, you may want to look into having him seen by someone who specializes in small mammals or pocket pets. In the meantime, you can try moistening his pellets to make them easier to eat. I hope this helps and that all is well!

My guinea pig won't eat, hides, and seems sick. What could be wrong?

Make sure they check all of his teeth. The teeth can overgrown to the point that they can’t eat. If he hasn’t eaten for a while the intestines will stop moving and they will need medications for pain and also some to try and get them to start moving again. Hope they figure it out for you.
