Guinea pig bit houseplant, gagging. Home remedies for poisoning?

Certain plants, usually those that are flowering, can be toxic to guinea pigs and other rodents. There is no definitive toxicity associated with orchids in guinea pigs to my knowledge, but to get a absolute answer to your question I would recommend contacting the pet poison helpline. Toxins for animals such as dogs, cats, and horses are well known and highly documented where as animals such as guinea pigs are a little bit more of a mystery. This is why I am inclined to recommend you contact someone who deals with toxins all day, every day. However, should you choose to take a wait and see approach, my belief is that things will probably be fine apart from some possible gastrointestinal upset. Obviously if this turns into severe diarrhea, I would recommend immediate veterinary care before dehydration occurs. Hope this helps and that Popcorn ends up OK!

As long as she didn't ingest any, there is little concern that she will have any toxic effects. You can flush her mouth with water to help ensure there is no residue. It's best to find out the type of poison. If you have the packaging, then there should be a number to call in case of poisoning. If you call the number on the package (1-877-854-2494) you should be able to talk to someone at the animal poison control who can help you determine what chance there is of any toxic effects and if anything needs to be done. I am so sorry! Since it has been a few days she may still heal on her own. I am concerned though that she may have a broken rib or puncture lung since she is breathing heavily. I wish I had a great home care treatment for her but it sounds like she needs extensive medical care to ease her pain and help her heal. You could call the vet that saw her and see if they can prescribe any pain meds or additional pain meds to help her. Plus without seeing her and knowing exactly what is going on, it is hard for me to give any recommendations. If she is continuing to suffer and treatment isn't an option, you may want to consider humane euthanasia so she doesn't continue to suffer. I'm sorry and I hope she starts to heal.
