Why does my guinea pig beg for food and climb his cage after treats?

The squeaking is from fear/anxiety. It may help to offer her treats and fruits and vegetables such as apples, blueberries and carrots daily by hand to help gradually relieve her anxiety around you over time/help her associate you with her favorite foods! Also spending time with her out of her cage on the floor with you with and treats/toys may gradually help her relax around you as well (vs being held high up). Good luck!

Try encouraging your guinea pigs to play with interactive toys, give them things to chew on, and offer them treats, like baby carrots, when they are out of their cage. This will help them associate being out of the cage with something positive. You may also want to try taking them to a different room from the one the cage is in. Sounds like Violet does not like that particular food. You may want to closely examine her food for fungus, mites or excessive dust (sometimes food you buy can be old or infected with mites). Try a new box. Also feed her some fresh greens, a piece of apple, tomato, cucumber, and some nice clean dust free hay. If none of this works, then that is just a quirk. Guinea pigs are not like dogs, so it is not possible to teach her not to flip the bowl over. You might have to make a little permanent frame in the cage that you can put the bowl in and which cannot be turned over by her.

If your guinea pigs are still young (under a year) then they are probably just needing extra calories because they are growing. I would recommend to offer them as much fresh hay as they want. Continue to restrict the amount of pellets because overfeeding them can cause unwanted weight gain. you can add in extra veggies as needed. I hope this helps! Continue to give the attention and handle them daily. And offer them treats. Try to find treats that a high in vitamin c since they can't produce their own vitamin c (kiwi, bell peppers, kale, oranges, etc). It will take some time for them to get use to you as changing environments can be stressful. I hope this helps

Oh my, he is so adorable. My advise is be patient. If he has not been handled a lot they are usually very skittish. Keep talking to him and holding him so he gets used to you and your touch. He will come out once he becomes more comfortable in his new surroundings. He should have a good pellet diet with vitamin C, have timothy hay at all times and you can offer him a variety of green leafy vegetables and fruits. The darker green the better like parsley, spinach, etc. He will learn about those yummy treats and they will usually come running to you!! Make sure he is eating and drinking and you are seeing lots of feces. give him time and I think he will learn to trust you and be less skittish.

I would recommend starting to hand feed them treats now. I would allow them to come to you and just go slowly. Sometimes you have to give them a very yummy special treat that is only given to them by you. It can take time for them to warm up to you but the earlier you start the better. Hope that helps
