What are some fun and effective ways to exercise my guinea pig?

Guinea pigs may be too large to play inside a ball, but you can still set up a safe activity area outside of their cage environment with the use of an X-pen or other foldable gates. You can then fill that area with toys to play with and chew on, hay to munch on, and other fun activities. This can help your piggies stretch and get a little exercise while still being safe and staying out of areas that may cause harm.

This question is hard to address because I don't know what you are feeding and how much. Those are key questions to addressing this problem. Exercise is key of course but food intake and what types of food are very critical for maintaining a good body condition. I would advise a visit to a vet in your area familiar with guinea pigs to let them see Brownie and make some recommendations or post another question here with the above information. He should be weighing around 2.5lbs and he does look overweight in the pictures. You need to adjust his diet. Around 80% of his diet should be high quality grass hay. He also needs vitamin c. In order to get a variety of nutrients and vitamin C, give your guinea pig up to 1 cup (128 g) of fresh vegetables and about 1/4 cup (30 g) of fresh fruit a day. Stick to this diet, nothing extra, and that should help him lose weight. Limit the amount of pellets he gets, as that can be a cause of weight gain. The Humane Society recommends that guinea pigs eat about 1/8 cup (30 g) of pellets a day. Also avoid high starch foods and commercial treats. Finally, get him to exercise. Let him run around the house supervised, and set up obstacles and toys in his cage to get him moving. I hope this helps!

Try encouraging your guinea pigs to play with interactive toys, give them things to chew on, and offer them treats, like baby carrots, when they are out of their cage. This will help them associate being out of the cage with something positive. You may also want to try taking them to a different room from the one the cage is in. Guinea pigs are fun, fairly easy pets to own. Clean water daily, lots of Timothy hay, limited guinea pig pellets, vitamin C supplement are important. Guinea pigs also have sensitive respiratory tracts, so changing their cage several times a week to keep the urine smell (ammonia levels) down is also important. Some daily exercise out of the cage is also great! I hope this was helpful!

Congratulations on your new pet! To help Chanel feel safe, you can move slowly around her. First just standing near her cage, then placing your hand in the cage without touching her, and then gently petting her before attempting to pick her up. Guinea pigs are curious and like to play with toys and burrow in tunnels. In order to be healthy, Chanel should have plenty of water and hay avaiyat all times. She should have a ration of pellets everyday and can have some green leafy veggies and fruits as an occasional treat. You should monitor her for signs of diarrhea, skin issues, loss of appetite and energy and have her seen by a vet if any of these occur.

You can use an exercise ball with s gerbil. Be sure to keep it away from stairs or ledges. You can also try a different wheel or exercise apparatus. There could be a personal preference. Make sure the cage is big enough for 2 gerbils to prevent stress or bullying.
