Why is my ferret still sneezing and having odd poop after treatment?

Ferrets do get upper respiratory infections or colds just like us. Usually they get better with rest and no treatment is necessary. If the eyes or nose get green or yellow discharge or they stop eating they may have a secondary bacterial infection and would need an exam to confirm the diagnosis and antibiotics. Without more of a history, it is difficult to determine if this is cause for concern. Monitor for lethargy, discharge from the eyes/nose/mouth, decreased appetite, fever, loose stool or weight loss. Since they are "new" to you, an exam with your veterinarian or a vet experienced in treating ferrets would be recommended. At the very least, Wednesday will get a clean bill of health and you will get peace of mind.

Stinkier stools may also be related to a gastrointestinal issue. I would recommend taking Freddy to a vet, who will be able to fully diagnose his condition by performing a thorough physical exam. They can take a good listen to his lungs to check for pneumonia, and palpate his stomach to check for pain or evidence of hair ball or foreign body. You mention that Snowball is getting better with treatment, so I would not give up yet. Just as when a child is sick, animals will need time to get better and healthy. Keep on pampering him and spoon feeding him until he eats by himself, make sure he gets enough fluid, and keep him warm. He should be improving a little every day. It can take a good few days for him to get healthy, so as long as he is steadily improving there is hope.

It sounds like your ferrets were responding to the treatment prescribed but that they likely need a longer course of antibiotic therapy. I recommend taking them back to your veterinarian for additional treatment (and more diagnostics if needed). I do not recommend trying to give them whey. Oxbow Carnivore Care is the best diet you can give to sick ferrets. Unfortunately, I do not know if it is available in Belgium.
