Is a rabbit cage safe for my ferret to live in indoors, and cheaper?

I would not recommend putting a rabbit that has been living indoors outside permanently. They get used to the indoor climate and outside living can be a shock for them. And if you proceed to do it a metal/plastic cage is not an appropriate home for them. It will provide absoloutely no insulation due to the thermal properties of the materials. You would need to invest in an insulated wooden hutch or a specifically outdoor plastic hutch.

You want a cage that is at-least big enough so that she can hop and have a little room to run around. Avoid wire on the bottom of the cage, because this can be hard on her feet. The bigger the cage the better. Thanks for reaching out about your rat. Wire bars are a mild concern as their feet or legs can slip through, leading to sprain or even fractures. A solid bottom cage is preferred for rodents because of this. Good luck.

It may be stressful at first if your rabbit is not used to the smell, but should get better over time. Spraying other chemicals such as essential oils etc is probably NOT a good idea as that may be irritating to your rabbit's (and ferret's) bodies and may cause more harm than just having the ferret odor. Keeping the area cleaned and well ventilated is a better solution to minimize odors rather than mask it.

No ferrets should stay in the house. He could get cold outside and if he should escape he can't survive outside and you probably wouldn't be able to find him. Get some toys from the pet store for him to play with. Once Felix grows up and your cat is used to him then I would try them together when you are watching. You don't want your cat to injure him.
