Is outdoor walking necessary for my ferret's health and well-being?

No ferrets should stay in the house. He could get cold outside and if he should escape he can't survive outside and you probably wouldn't be able to find him. Get some toys from the pet store for him to play with. Once Felix grows up and your cat is used to him then I would try them together when you are watching. You don't want your cat to injure him. However, it is important to keep their home cage clean as they have a faster intestinal transit time (meaning up to 4 bowel movements per day) and make sure that your home is “ferret-proofed” to avoid foreign body obstructions and injuries. Eight is an average lifespan for a ferret - it is not the maximum age. I have treated many ferrets older than 8 years. Just because an animal lives to a certain age doesn't necessarily mean it's healthy. Many animals have underlying medical conditions that don't cause immediate death. Alive does not equal healthy. Hello! Yes, I would recommend getting Bandit spayed. Female ferrets will continuously go into heat until they are bred. This, over time, causes a common syndrome of estrogen toxicity and fatal bone marrow suppression in intact female ferrets. Ferrets have very exact nutritional requirements and a complete ferret food based on animal proteins is preferred (they do not digest dairy or plant based proteins well). There are many brands available, I have always found the james wellbeloved to be palatable for them. Occasional treats of fresh (boiled) meat or eggs are ok also

Hi there. So sorry that Feru is having this issue. At 16 days old I think it would be hard to say if a ferret is "happy" or not. If she was more active before and she is now not as active (lethargic) then she needs to see a vet ASAP as this could indicate an underlying illness. In a young animal this could be very serious. Ferrets should receive a distemper vaccine yearly as well as a rabies vaccine. Distemper in ferrets is nearly always fatal. It can be transmitted via bodily fluids from an infected animal. It is also an airborne virus. Prevention is very easy and effective via vaccination. Be sure your veterinarian uses a vaccine specifically for ferrets. As a public health hazard, rabies vaccination and may be mandated in many locations for pets. Your ferret does not "need" another ferret. Be sure to provide plenty of exercise and attention though. Depression can manifest as lethargy, loss of appetite, weight loss or even excessive grooming.
