My ferret is eating after vet care, but why isn't he pooping?

You mention that Snowball is getting better with treatment, so I would not give up yet. Just as when a child is sick, animals will need time to get better and healthy. Keep on pampering him and spoon feeding him until he eats by himself, make sure he gets enough fluid, and keep him warm. He should be improving a little every day. It can take a good few days for him to get healthy, so as long as he is steadily improving there is hope.

I would be concerned that your ferret is either constipated, having diarrhea, or perhaps has a foreign body/blockage going on. If she does not eat within a 24 hour period then yes, I would recommend taking her into the vet. Your veterinarian will need to palpate her abdomen, possibly do a fecal exam, and may recommend abdominal x-rays and an ultrasound. Poor Badger! His intestinal issues can be caused by viral or bacterial infections or intestinal parasites. While certain viral infections run their course, I recommend having him seen by a vet because you describe him as having lower energy levels and appetite. Badger may need some supportive care to help stabilize him. To speed up the diagnostic process, I recommend bringing a stool sample from Badger in a disposable container so your vet can check for intestinal parasites. Unfortunately, I am unable to prescribe any medications for Rocky without examining him myself, but you can monitor him for any changes such as lethargy or vomiting. Ferrets have a very quick intestinal tract, so their stool typically returns to normal after a benign upset within 24 hours. If Rocky’s symptoms perist, he may need to be seen by a vet to rule out parasites or infections. In the meantime, make sure he has plenty of water to drink in order to replace any fluids lost with the diarrhea.
