Why is my ferret eating litter and biting? Should I be worried?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

My ferret, he has been eating his litter and when I try to take it away he tries to bite my hand. I took him to the vet and they gave me anibiotics. What does this behavior mean. Should I be worried?

You can try to remove the litter from your ferret's cage and keep him on newspaper for the time being. If the behavior does not improve, a veterinarian that specializes in exotic animals could test your ferret's blood to see if there is any medical reason that is causing him to eat his litter. Good luck! I hope he is feeling better soon.
