My female dwarf hamster is bleeding. Is her male cage mate attacking her?

Poor Luna. I would recommend separating them until Luna's back has healed if you find them often picking on each other or starting to become aggressive they might need separated more long term. Sometimes as they get older they can become more territorial or aggressive. If the wound is bleeding a lot Luna might need to visit the vet to for medications like pain control. Hope that helps

It's most definitely due to fighting, they are known to be fighting when kept together, for this reason it is recommended to have only one hamster per cage. unfortunately many pet shops tend to give false information about this, they don't warn you about this issue but this the unfortunate truth. i recommend separating them into 2 different cages.

I recommend bringing him to your veterinarian to have him examined, have the wounds cleaned, and he can be given medication for pain and antibiotics. Any bite wound has the potential to become grossly infected and abscessed, which is very painful and can require surgery to resolve. In the meantime, you can try gently wiping any discharge away from the wounds with a damp cloth. I hope this is helpful!

Separating the hamsters was a great idea! You will probably always need to keep them separated from now on. If the wound on your hamster’s leg is severe then you will need to take her to a veterinarian as soon as possible. If it does not look too serious (like just a skin wound/abrasion) you can try applying a thin layer of triple antibiotic ointment to the wound and see if that helps. I am not sure if hazel is alone in the cage or if she is with another hamster is with her. If two hamsters are together I am concerned about a fight and would recommend separating them. However if she is alone I would look through the cage for any sign of trauma or sharp edges. Also if she has itchy skin or bad teeth she could be scratching herself. I would recommend taking her to a veterinarian to have the Lunda looked at and get more insight Hope she feels better soon.

Thanks for reaching out about Coco and including photos. This appears to be some type of prolapse, either urinary or reproductive, and is not normal. A veterinary visit s recommended. Monitor straining, urine production. Good luck.

I'm sorry to hear that Tracy isn't feeling well. Certainly the jump in temperature may have effected her, but good that you are working to fix that. Blood from the genital area is quite worrying. It may be that she is a little dehydrated with the heat and her stools are firmer causing a little bleeding. However, it could also indicate an issue in the intestinal tract such as infection. Likewise the blood could be coming from the vulva and be related to a urinary or even reproductive tract issue. Unless she is much improved today I would take her to the vet as she will likely require treatment that is not available at home.
