My dog has a stomach tumor. Can he live happily without removal?

IF the mass is located on an organ that is safe to remove, then good. If it is attached to the spleen or uterus, those can be safely removed and dogs recover well and live comfortable without those parts. However, it should be sent off for analysis to see if it is cancer or not as that can affect the time and quality of life after. If the mass is attached to the stomach or liver, then it may not be able to be removed and you will be forced to make the decision to not wake her up from the surgery or wake her up and let her live a comfortable life for however amount of time that may be.

I'm sorry Kalvin has a tumor. Surgery to remove may be best for him. If the entire tumor is removed, this could really improve his quality of life and give you extra time with him. If his vet feels it's a good idea, and I imagine the vet does or else they wouldn't have booked him in for surgery, I would do it.

A testicular tumor will need to be removed surgically by a veterinarian. This is a relatively simple procedure, usually achieved by castration. Re the mass at the belly button: This may be an umbilical hernia which can be fixed at the same time as the tumor is removed. If you gently press on the mass and it can be pushed back into the abdomen, it is a hernia. Both of these conditions need to be fixed surgically.

I am very sorry to hear about your dog. What you are describing sounds like most likely a tumor. There are many different types of tumors. Two of the more common we see in this area are lipomas, which are fatty tumors and feel soft/squishy, and sarcomas which are firmer feeling. Unfortunately it sounds like this is large and causing her problems. She needs a visit to the vet's office to examine the tumor and see if it can be surgically removed. They may want to take an x-ray and may want to do what is called a "fine needle aspirate" to collect cells to try to identify the type of tumor before surgery.

I remember the name of your dog :-) If it's a benign tumor, then it does not need to be removed unless it's affecting her movement in some way, it gets really big, or if it's irritating to her (she's biting at it, scratching at it). This looks like a mammary tumor, which could be benign or malignant. At the age of your dog I would not opt for removal. If it is not growing or ulcerating then I would not worry about it too much. However, you may want to take her to your vet to have it assessed just in case it is a cyst or an abscess, either of which would need to be evacuated (emptied)

There is no way of knowing for sure without an examination though this represents a reason to seek veterinary care. This is usually determined with an examination and a fine needle aspirate (FNA) or a biopsy. Treatment depends on the findings up to that point. I think it would be best to have her evaluated before considering euthanasia as this may be able to be treated.
