My old dog has painful belly lumps. What are my treatment options?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Jack Russell Terrier | Female | 13 years and 6 months old | 10 lbs

My grandma's dog is a 13 year old jack Russel(more specifically a jack Carson). She has 2 large lumps in her belly. She has a hard time lying down. She's panting unusually and acting different from normal. My thoughts were what she needs to be put down because it seems that she is in a lot of pain. We can't afford tumor removal. She's also shaking a lot, she shakes usually but she is shaking much more that usually. Is there anything we should do, or is putting her down better?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! These could be benign or malignant growths. There is no way of knowing for sure without an examination though this represents a reason to seek veterinary care. This is usually determined with an examination and a fine needle aspirate (FNA) or a biopsy. Treatment depends on the findings up to that point. I think it would be best to have her evaluated before considering euthanasia as this may be able to be treated. I recommend you have Savano evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Good luck and have a good night!
