Baby squirrel lost teeth and seems sick. Should I take it to a vet?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Other | Unknown - Other | Male | unneutered

I'm afraid that there could be something wrong with Austin, earlier today his top two teeth came out(there was some blood) I read online that he could lose his appetite because of this. I would like to take him to a doctor or maybe receive some guidance. when I found him he was very weak, dehydrated, and small. He has become stronger. I still stimulate him and feed him regularly, he has started using the bathroom on his own. My concern: normal breathing? milk in lungs? normal sleeping schedule?

I would strongly recommend trying to find a wildlife rehabilitator are in your area that can take Austin. In most areas it is illegal to keep wildlife is pets without special permit. And that's because it's difficult to keep them healthy and thriving, baby squirrels tend not to do very well race singly they should be kept with a group of babies of similar age. And they do also require a specialized formula. http://m.humanesociety.org/animals/resources/tips/find-a-wildlife-rehabilitator.html

Otherwise I definitely recommend taking Austin to an exotic veterinarian ASAP. This website might be able to help you find one. https://www.aemv.org/

Good luck and thank you for using PetCoach.
