Why did my baby bunny die after jelly stool? Can I give antibiotics?

There appears to be a lot of stool in the colon. I don't see any severe pathology though. I would recommend a few things: 1. STOP the Amoxcillin. I hate going against what another veterinarian has presbribed but Amoxicillin is not a good antibiotic for rabbits. It can be dangerous because of the likelihood of it negatively effect the GI Tract. I don't see any indication that an antibiotic is needed in your rabbit based on what you have stated in the history. 2. Continue the Cisapride and Eloxyn (if you still have some). The cisapride will help get the GI tract moving. He needs to stay on this drug until the motility of the GI tract is back to normal. 3. Keep feeding the Critical Care on top of the regular diet. It is never advisable to take on an unwell pet, especially if you have other pets at home or are unable to provide the healthcare they require as and when needed. I would take Hugs into a vet immediately. True diarrhea is uncommon in rabbits, and this watery stool may actually be softened cecotropes caused by an imbalance of gut flora. This can be caused by GI stasis, which in turn can be caused by stress, dehydration, pain from another condition (UTI, dental problems, infection), an intestinal blockage, or insufficient dietary fiber. GI stasis can result in a painful death of the animal if left untreated, and it's serious sign when a rabbit doesn't want to eat. You need to take Hugs into a vet now.

You should stop giving him the vitamin supplement right away, i would recommend buying good quality food and hay these are better than any supplements on the market. if your baby rabbit is still suffering from diarrhea you must take him to the vet urgently as diarrhea is often fatal in baby rabbits.

The jelly like substance that you were seeing was likely mucous, and this usually comes from the colon when there has been a disruption in the way that the large intestine is moving. I am not sure if you can think of any diet changes that have occurred in the last week or so, or any stressful events - these are often the culprits of a one time jelly-like blob. The feces can also become a strange shape when this happens. If it only occurred the one time, I would just monitor Bugsy. If it continues, or if it happens again, I would recommend having him evaluated by a veterinarian as this may be indicative of him being sick. A rabbit's intestinal tract is very important, and something as simple as this is often an indicator of illness/disease. IT could be a respiratory infection, gut stasis, gastrointestinal infection or some other type of infection. it could also be a teeth problem but becasue it affects all of the it is unlikely. basically they should be put on antibiotics, Pramin and critical care syringe feeding. the vet can provide you all these.

Loose stools in rabbits is a very severe sign, you must take her to the vet ASAP in order to get it treated, failure to do so will most probably lead to her death very soon. loose stools are usually caused by a gastrointestinal infection and requires antibiotic treatment as well as a special fiber supplement.
